"Zagreb public transport operator ZET has outlined official rules for traveling with pets on trams and buses. Learn when you need a ticket and when pets can ride for free."
If you are planning to explore Zagreb with your furry friend, it is essential to get familiar with the city's public transport regulations. Zagreb holding's public transport operator, ZET, has released clear guidelines for passengers traveling with pets, outlining specific requirements based on the size and type of the animal to ensure safety and comfort for everyone on board.
Rules for small and large dogs
Small pets, including cats and dogs up to 30 centimeters in height, can travel on Zagreb trams and buses completely free of charge, provided they remain inside an appropriate transport carrier for the entire journey. Owners must ensure the carrier is safely positioned and does not disturb fellow passengers. Meanwhile, dogs taller than 30 centimeters are subject to stricter rules: they must wear a muzzle, be kept on a short lead, and owners must purchase an additional ticket in accordance with ZET fare rules.
Boarding and assistance dogs
Furthermore, passengers traveling with pets must board through the front doors and remain in the front section of the vehicle for the duration of the trip. Each passenger is allowed only one pet on board, and owners must carry the necessary documentation while keeping the vehicle clean. In contrast, assistance dogs, such as guide and therapy dogs, enjoy special provisions and are allowed to use public transport while wearing their designated official equipment.
