"Lonjsko Polje Nature Park is launching a new investment worth nearly 290,000 euros aimed at restoring the popular Borderlands Trail and Krapje Visitor Center. The project will enhance eco-tourism experiences by the end of 2026."

A New Boost for Sustainable Tourism in Lonjsko Polje

The Public Institution Nature Park Lonjsko Polje continues its strategic investment in upgrading tourist infrastructure and visitor facilities. With a newly signed contract worth €289,986.75, an extensive renovation project is set to begin, aimed at improving visitor accessibility while preserving the park's natural environment. The works will be carried out by PE-GRA and funded through the Joint Funds of Croatian Parks, underscoring the national significance of this unique wetland ecosystem.

Upgrading the Borderlands Trail and Birdwatching Towers

The project focuses on revitalizing the popular Borderlands Trail (Staza graničara) located in Krapje, a village famous for its traditional wooden architectural heritage. Renovations include the complete restoration of the Kladnik bridge and the Rezac and Žličarka observation towers. These towers offer unparalleled views of the Krapje Đol Special Ornithological Reserve, making them prime spots for birdwatchers and nature photography enthusiasts. Additionally, the Rezac tower overlooks the Orlinici pasture, home to the indigenous Slavonian-Syrmian Podolian cattle.

Enhanced Visitor Experience in Krapje

In addition to the trail updates, the initiative will upgrade the Krapje Visitor Center by renovating its wooden terrace with a pergola and building an improved access path. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, these developments will solidify Lonjsko Polje's position as a premier destination for continental eco-tourism in Croatia.
