"The Croatian government has announced a further increase in one-off financial support for newborns, reaching €803 starting January 1, 2027."
The Croatian government is continuing its demographic revitalization efforts by announcing a planned increase in one-off financial assistance for newborn children to €803, taking effect on January 1, 2027. This initiative aims to alleviate the initial financial burden that families face following the arrival of a child, covering essential equipment and necessities during the early stages of parenthood.
Continuous Growth in Family Support
Minister of Demography and Immigration Ivan Šipić confirmed that the proposed increase will raise the current payment from €618—which was established in March 2025—by an additional €185, marking a nearly 30 percent boost. This follows previous increases from the older €309 rate, demonstrating a sustained government commitment to strengthening family welfare and addressing broader demographic challenges across the country.
Streamlined System for Future Adjustments
In addition to the higher payout, the proposed legislation introduces a more efficient model for future updates. The government will be able to review and adjust the amount annually in December without needing to overhaul the entire legal framework. Backed by an estimated budget allocation of €28 million, this proactive measure reinforces Croatia's dedication to building a secure, family-friendly environment for both locals and residents.
